During the visit, we carry out a comprehensive inspection. For a flat roof, that might mean checking for signs of ponding, blistering, or seam failure. For a heritage slate roof, we’ll look for slipped tiles, failed fixings, or inadequate ventilation. For leadwork, we check for fatigue cracks, failed joints, or poor detailing.

Transparent Quotation & Options

Once the inspection is complete, we prepare a clear, itemised quotation. Every element is broken down — materials, labour, scaffolding, safety measures — so you know exactly where your investment is going. Alongside the numbers, we provide a written explanation of the methods and materials proposed.

Where options exist, we set them out clearly:

• Repair versus replacement, explaining cost, longevity, and disruption differences.
• Material options, such as felt versus liquid membranes for flat roofs, or tile versus slate for pitched.
• Heritage considerations, like handmade clay tiles or Welsh slate where conservation rules apply.

Preparation & Safety Setup

Before any work begins, we ensure your property and surroundings are protected. Scaffolding and access equipment are installed safely and in compliance with CITB training protocols. Gardens, driveways, and sensitive areas are sheeted or cordoned to prevent damage.

We also liaise with neighbours where necessary, especially in terraced or heritage areas, to minimise disruption. Risk assessments and method statements are prepared and shared. For sensitive sites such as hospitals, schools, or prisons, our team can provide DBS, NPPV, or enhanced vetting certification.

This stage is about building trust before a single tile is lifted. Clients see that safety and respect for the property are non-negotiable.

Skilled Installation or Repair

With preparation complete, the real craft begins. Here, decades of experience meet accredited standards.

• Flat Roofing: We work with modern felt systems (Supreme, IKO), liquid-applied membranes (Kemper, Westwood, Proteus), and asphalt for robust waterproofing. Each system is installed to manufacturer standards, guaranteeing warranties remain valid.
• Pitched Roofing: Our slate and tiling teams handle both natural Welsh slate and handmade clay tiles for heritage accuracy, alongside modern machine-made tiles for cost-effective solutions.
• Leadwork: Traditional bossing, welding, and detailing using ALM lead ensures compliance with the Lead Sheet Association’s (LSA) rules, protecting valleys, chimneys, and parapets for decades.
• Heritage Projects: We specialise in sensitive restorations for listed buildings, balancing authentic materials with modern weatherproofing methods.

Throughout installation, our supervisors conduct daily quality checks, ensuring workmanship and compliance. Work sites are kept clean and disruption kept minimal. Clients receive regular updates, photos, and reassurance that progress matches expectations.

Quality Assurance & Compliance Pack

No project is complete without evidence. At JG Leadworks, we follow a five-point QA protocol:

1. Pre-installation surveys to identify risks and solutions.
2. Material verification against supplier/manufacturer standards.
3. Mid-installation checks aligned with Building Regulations.
4. Safety audits covering scaffolding, access, and site security.
5. Final inspection with photos and compliance documentation.

At handover, clients receive a compliance pack. This includes photographs, warranties, method statements, and insurance-ready documents. Where applicable, references to UK standards like BS 5534 (slating/tiling) or Part L (energy efficiency) are noted.

Final Walkthrough & Aftercare

We don’t just disappear after completion. A final walkthrough is conducted with the client, pointing out work completed, highlighting before/after evidence, and explaining warranties. For heritage sites, we also provide documentation for conservation officers if required.

Clients are given aftercare guidance, covering:

• Maintenance intervals (e.g., biannual inspections).
• Lifespan expectations of materials (e.g., slate 80–100 years; felt 10–20 years).
• Signs of wear to monitor (blistering, slipped tiles, condensation).
• How to book emergency call-outs or maintenance visits.

We also offer ongoing maintenance contracts for landlords, commercial facilities, and heritage custodians. This ensures roofs are inspected, cleaned, and minor issues fixed before they become major problems.
